From the 21st<\/sup> to the 25th<\/sup> of August, TwInSolar partners, accompanied by 13 researchers from the University of La Reunion, were welcomed by the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) for a week of Summer school on solar and wind energy.<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n

The Summer school kicked off with a workshop held by Fraunhofer ISE on solar forecasts and their integration on the management of energy systems. <\/strong>Originally planned in February this year but postponed due to Cyclone Freddy, this workshop set the scene for fruitful scientific exchanges on a number of topics linked to the integration of renewable energies, which were further developed throughout the week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lectures given by DTU researchers<\/strong> covered notably topics such as forecasting, hybrid power plants, physical design and optimization, variability and uncertainty, modelling of the solar resource and PV system performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On site presence provided the opportunity to participants to discover various innovative wind and solar research facilities, notably DTU Syslab<\/strong>, with its unique facility (i.e. 400V grid, wind turbines and PV panels, energy storages, full scale house, etc.) allowing researchers to test control concepts and strategies for power systems with distributed control. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While most of the activities took place on the campus of Ris<\/strong>\u00f8<\/strong><\/em>, in the exceptional natural environment of the Roskilde fjord, participants also travelled for a day to Lyngby to discover the DTU Powerlab. <\/strong>This is an experimental platform for electric power and energy with flexible test laboratories, large scale experimental facilities, and a complete full-scale power distribution system on the Island of Bornholm.<\/p>\n\n\n

One of the highlights of the week was notably the visits of DTU Link<\/strong> at Ris\u00f8<\/em> campus and DTU Skylab<\/strong> at Lyngby campus, where attendees discovered stunning facilities dedicated to the development of innovative solutions brought out by students, lecturers or external companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A special emphasis was made on the exchange between participants, thanks to lunch talks sessions<\/strong>, which gave researchers the opportunity to present and discuss their work with their counterparts from Fraunhofer ISE (Germany), DTU, and the University of French Guiana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In parallel to the Summer school, TwInSolar project partners gathered for a Consortium meeting<\/strong> to discuss future activities of the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They also took advantage of being on site to meet with Christian Riisager, in charge of DTU project support to exchange about research structuring, project management and strategies to present successful projects to European scale\u2019s calls.<\/p>\n\n\n

DTU\u2019s Ris\u00f8 campus is located on the exceptional natural environment of the Roskilde fjord.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, a cultural visit of the Viking boats Museum<\/strong> allowed the participants to get to know more about the fascinating history of five 1000-years-old Viking ships which were discovered in the fjord. Today, a shipyard recreates the famous langskips<\/em>, using the same technics the Vikings did.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
